Born in Illinois in 1921, Thomas P. Parkinson held impressive careers as a journalist, editor, arena manager, circus historian, and public facilities consultant. In his early life he joined the army and became an Operations Sergeant, in the 80th infantry division, third army, in Europe. He received his bachelor degree in political science and history from the University of Illinois in 1943 and was senior editor of the Daily Illini, the campus newspaper.
